Course objective
This workshop provides foundational skills and knowledge for aspiring Psychosocial Recovery Coaches, focusing on supporting NDIS clients with psychosocial disabilities. The objective of this course is to build learners’ confidence and practical understanding of psychosocial recovery coaching, including the use of lived experience, recovery-oriented practice, NDIS knowledge, care planning, communication skills, person-centred support and appropriate responses to situations requiring immediate action.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the role and purpose of a Psychosocial Recovery Coach.
- Describe the difference between counselling and psychosocial recovery coaching.
- Understand the value and boundaries of using lived experience in support conversations.
- Apply recovery-oriented principles that promote safety, trust, respect and choice.
- Support participants to identify goals, needs, strengths and next steps.
- Understand basic NDIS language, supports and participant choice and control.
- Contribute to care planning and wellness-focused conversations.
- Use effective communication skills to build rapport and trust.
- Apply a person-centred approach when supporting people with psychosocial disability.
- Recognise when a situation may require immediate action or referral.
- Maintain professional boundaries, ethical practice and respectful communication.
- Reflect on learning and identify ways to strengthen practice as a recovery coach.
